Why should I trust the Bible?
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (New Living Translation)
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
Psalm 33:4 (New Living Translation)
For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does.
All of God’s Words are true and trustworthy. The Bible is reliable because, unlike people, God does not lie, change his words, or leave his promises unfulfilled. We can trust the Bible because it contains the words of a holy, trustworthy, and unchangeable God. God’s wisdom is a wellspring of life that can make a person happy, healthy, and alive forever.
In our enthusiasm for the truth of Scripture, we must never forget its purpose—to equip us to do well. We should not study God’s Word simply to increase our knowledge or to prepare us to win arguments. We should study the Bible so that we will know how to do Christ’s work in the world. Our knowledge of God’s Word is not useful unless it strengthens our faith and leads us to do well.
